Despite Shades of Fear's the stellar cast, this abysmal romantic thriller, which has apparently been gathering dust for three years, is best viewed while wearing shades of fear, earplugs of trepidation, and a restraining harness of justifiable concern that the tape might ''accidentally'' wind up in a million pieces on your living-room floor. Everything is exactly what it seems when art historian John Hurt, whose wife was murdered by an unscrupulous forger nine years earlier, encounters suspicious Scotsman Jonathan Pryce on an ocean liner bound for England. Hurt thinks Pryce looks uncannily like the supposedly dead culprit. You think? D
