A-
A British journalist (Stephen Dillane) crosses the line between observer and activist when he smuggles an orphan girl out of war-ravaged Bosnia. Michael Winterbottom's deeply affecting movie (loosely based on true stories) is advocacy filmmaking at its most inarguable, but its real power comes from a rigorous sense of storytelling that describes terrible tales without telegraphing emotionalism. Credit also goes to the bracing energy of Woody Harrelson as a roving American journalist hooked on war reporting.
