BOBBY MCFERRIN Bang! Zoom (Blue Note) Is McFerrin trying to underwrite his budding orchestra-conducting career by cutting an album of radio-friendly pop tunes like this? If so, one wishes he hadn't thrown himself so wholeheartedly into fund-raising. Aiming at the bottom line with a load of sleek but bland pop-funk, and enlisting the cheesy Yellowjackets as collaborators, the magnificent vocalist sells his talents short. B-
