Like many former jingle singers, Stephanie Bentley lacks a distinctive voice. But she makes up for it on this impressive debut in Hopechest with a nearly faultless song selection, ranging from wistful Nanci Griffith-like ballads (''Once I Was the Light of Your Life'') to a Bonnie Raittish invitation to backdoor love (''Think of Me'') all delivered with smarts and sass.
