Giant Sand's sloppy amiability is just the attitude you want at a backyard barbecue; New Jersey's WFMU-FM realized this, fired up the grill, set up a stage, and broadcast the proceedings. The band sounds as if it had fun on BBQ— its twisted blues, bone-dry country, and tumbleweed cocktail jazz conjure up the sweet, lazy pleasure of a summer afternoon. A-
