Jade

Inexplicably over-employed screenwriter Joe Eszterhas and now-tiresome director William Friedkin bond for a sleazy $35 million whodunit, in which San Francisco assistant DA Caruso suspects a now-married old flame (a vulnerableFiorentino — please!) of murdering a millionaire in Jade. For such an expensive movie, Jade on video doesn't look all that different from a USA Network teleflick. And despite all the heavy breathing, Eszterhas and Friedkin's fascination with kinky sex never goes beyond the titteringly voyeuristic. They're just two Hollywood boys being naughty, wasteful, and unbelievably dull. D
