The companion to a clever new CD of alternative artists covering TV themes, Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits is a collection of 18 music videos goofily integrates performance footage with the songs' inspirations, animated and otherwise (e.g., H.R. Pufnstuf and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters). The renditions themselves are a mixed bag, with Liz Phair and Material Issue's ebullient Banana Splits theme and the Ramones' ampheta-pop ''Spiderman'' the best of the sugarcoated chestnuts. Conspicuously absent, though, are the genre's kings, the Dickies, who have already covered three of these songs on older records. And who had the bright idea to frame — and interrupt — the clips with snippets of Drew Barrymore and friends' inane slacker banter? B-
