Golden Globes shining stars

Even rain couldn't stop winners like Nicole Kidman and John Travolta

It would have been pig heaven for Babe, but heavy rain turned the entryway to the 53rd Annual Golden Globe Awards into a muddy hell for actresses. ''This is a nightmare,'' said presenter Jodie Foster, arriving in a floor-grazing Donna Karan gown. Once inside, though, winners went hog-wild. 1. ''It's exciting to see all the Australians win,'' To Die For's Nicole Kidman said between kisses. She cheered on fellow down under winner Babe(Best Musical or Comedy) and Aussie-accented Mel Gibson (Best Director). 2. Accepting his award for Best Actor in a Comedy, Get Shorty's John Travolta forgot to thank wife Kelly Preston, but the tension may come in handy. ''We want to do a film together,'' said Travolta. ''Maybe as adversaries.'' 3 & 4. Gwyneth Paltrow, in Calvin Klein, and Sharon Stone, in Vera Wang, mirrored each other's images. 5. The three faces of Cybill insisted they'd done no color scheming. ''[Red] is the power color,'' said Cybill Shepherd, who scored two statuettes (Best Series and Best Actress) and announced a new fiance (Robert Martin). Nothing could rain on her parade.
