Details Movie Rated: PG-13; Genre: Comedy; With: John Leguizamo, Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze

Upon brightening up a stagnant quasi-redneck community, one of the three cross-country-trekking cross-dressing hero(ine)s of the breezy comedy To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar notes that a pinch of fairy dust can go a long way — very funny. This movie works best, however, when viewed as a fairy tale in the old-school sense; it certainly doesn't deal much in the reality of drag life. So as a Disneyfied (or, in this case, a product of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, which is more Disney than Disney now) depiction of an oft-maligned subculture, it's not bad at all. A noticeable improvement: While the dolled-up Swayze and Snipes looked positively frightening in theaters, on the small screen they're almost fetching — if you go for that sort of thing. B+
