IF NOTHING ELSE, Antonio Banderas' and Melanie Griffith's performances as lovers in Two Much should be believable. The couple fell for each other last year while filming the comedy -- in which Banderas pretends to be twins in order to woo both Griffith and Daryl Hannah -- and almost before director Fernando Trueba could yell ''Cut!'' they were obliging the public with what amounted to previews of their Two Much lip-locking scenes, minus the humor. Banderas left his wife of eight years, Ana Leza, soon after meeting his costar; a Griffith-Banderas bambino is due in September. ''Melanie is a natural comedian,'' says the generous Romeo, who is less confident that his own brand of humor, so artfully shown in Pedro Almodovar films like Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, will work in translation. ''I think I can play a good comedian, but I have to get to the point of being a comedian in English, yeah? The language is not easy.'' At least, not as easy as the universal language.
