A Face to Die For

EW's GRADE
D

Details Genre: Drama; With: Richard Beymer and Yasmine Bleeth; Network: NBC

Yasmine Bleeth is the only cast member of Baywatch who might be said to possess acting ability, a fact that is confirmed in A Face to Die For (NBC, Mar. 11, 9-11 p.m.). Too bad the script of this dopey tearjerker lets her down. Bleeth plays Emily, whose face was disfigured when she was 6. Emily is meek, and people act as if she's grotesque, even though she looks just like Yasmine Bleeth with a little monster makeup. A plastic surgeon (Richard Beymer) restores her to full Bleethness, then makes a play for her. But Emily soon realizes the true nature of his attraction: ''You don't love me,'' she accuses, ''you love my face!'' Well, duhhh. What's really stupid about Duane Poole's screenplay is that Emily's cad of a boyfriend (James Wilder) and her sister (Chandra West) don't recognize her post-surgery. Bleeth is just fine, whether being vulnerable or bitter, but A Face to Die For is to snooze during. D
