Videogame Review

Warcraft II

EW's GRADE
A

At first blush, Warcraft II seems like your run-of-the-mill strategic fantasy game: You control either the no-ble Humans or the fiendish Orcs in a series of campaigns amid an all-consuming war. To complete your quests, you must train and maneuver armies, develop communities, and, of course, fight battles. But underneath all this macro-management are some wonderfully engaging touches: beautifully rendered graphics, clever character animations, and whimsical sound effects. And despite this meticulous crafting, the game never degenerates into confusion. Rather, Warcraft II reveals itself in its details, and what you find is a world of color, wit, and depth. A
