Villains (1996)

EW's GRADE
D

Details Lead Performance: The Verve Pipe; Genre: Indie Rock

One could call Verve Pipe's debut Villains the merging of power chords and soul-baring wordplay an earnest attempt to bridge the indie-alt/classic rock divide — classic grunge, if you will. Or more succinctly, Pearl Jam Lite. Perhaps the work of the poor man's Live. Or maybe it's just a bloated, cringe-inducing bore.
