MARK KNOPFLER Golden Heart (Warner Bros.) Mark Knopfler's solo debut Golden Heart owes more to recent collaborations and his superb soundtrack work than to the dated rock that rendered Dire Straits irrelevant. Golden Heart is tasteful and understated, emphasizing fluid phrasing over Knopfler's original tendencies toward exhibitionist guitar virtuosity. There's a wizened soft-rock maturity that evokes recent Van Morrison efforts, with which it unfortunately shares a pleasant forgettability.
