Movie Review

Two Much (1996)

EW's GRADE
D-

Details Rated: PG-13; Length: 118 Minutes; Genre: Romance; With: Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith

Antonio Banderas tries to pull a Peter Sellers in the flat farce Two Much. He plays a shady art dealer (named Art!) who makes up a twin brother (named Bart!) so he can woo sisters played by Melanie Griffith and Daryl Hannah. The difference between Art and Bart is that Bart wears glasses and doesn't use a rubber band to ponytail his Banderrific long hair. The characters played by Griffith and Hannah actually fall for this Clark Kentish disguise, while Banderas, switching from one brother to the other, huffs and puffs through stiffly staged slapstick scenes. Further unbelievability is provided by the notion that Griffith's character is torn between Banderas and a thuggish ex-husband played by Danny Aiello. It was while making this movie that Banderas and Griffith launched their tabloid-tickling romance; let's hope it's steamier than their limp clinches in Two Much.
