Long Way Home (1996)

EW's GRADE
A-

Details Lead Performance: Clarence ''Gatemouth'' Brown; Genre: Blues

Though his label flirts with bad faith by surrounding Clarence Brown with enough big names (Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder) to swamp a less doughty old tugboat, the last of the great Texas bluesmen holds everything together on Long Way Home with his multi-instrumental virtuosity and gruff vocals. And a few of the superstar turns (an understated Clapton on ''Don't Think Twice'') are stellar indeed.
