British studiohead William Orbit occupies a stylistic demilitarized zone between New Age and techno-ambient music, conjuring a world gone pleasantly wired and making him a ripe candidate for the existential simmer of the Heat soundtrack. The releases from the mostly instrumental Strange Cargo and the vaguely vocal Torch Song project on Hinterland Torch Song Toward the Unknown Region make for bleary machine music that benefits from listening with half an ear.
