You Can Be Low (1996)

EW's GRADE
A

Details Lead Performance: Mavis Piggott; Genre: Indie Rock

Too smart lyrically and too gifted musically to be labeled ''grunge,'' coed trio Mavis Piggott play hook-filled, haunting, dynamically varied hard rock on You Can Be Low that their competition — from fellow Seattleites 7 Year Bitch to Nirvanabes Bush — can only dream about writing. And how many albums can keep you strumming an air guitar as you head to the dictionary to look up agraphia?
