Bassist Charlie Haden's unabashedly nostalgic quartet has assembled its most romantic opus yet, Now Is the Hour, lined with pianist Alan Broadbent's opulent string arrangements and Ernie Watts' suave saxophone. The quartet favors twilit reflectiveness over jazz fireworks but finds balance with bebop sparks on themes by Charlie Parker and Lee Konitz.
