DEALS
Michael Jackson's divorce, wife Mariah Carey's
multi-Grammy loss, boss Michael Schulhof's ouster these are the
things that try the soul of Thomas Mottola, 46. Even so, the
chairman of Sony Music Worldwide has something to sing about.
Late last month he signed a five-year, multimillion-dollar
contract with the Japanese giant.
EXITS
The '80s are really over. After 17 albums,
vocalist-drummer Phil Collins, 45, has officially abandoned
supergroup Genesis. The two remaining members, Mike Rutherford
and Tony Banks, say they'll search for a new singer again
(Collins replaced Peter Gabriel in 1975). ''I felt it time to
change direction in my musical life,'' said Collins, whose solo
career took off in 1981 but faltered with his 1993 album, Both Sides.... After 12 seasons, 11 Emmy nominations, 4 Golden
Globes, and a deadly Thursday-night face-off with Friends,
Angela Lansbury, 70, star of Murder, She Wrote, has dictated her
final sentence: I'm outta here. CBS will air the last Murder episode May 19, but the sleuth may resurface in TV movies next
season.
LAWSUITS
Baywatch's Pamela Lee, 28, and husband Tommy Lee, 33,
did ''it'' while videotaping every ooh and aah for the camera.
Unfortunately, the tape was inside a safe that was stolen from
their home in California. Somehow the tape landed at Penthouse magazine, which plans to publish images from it in an upcoming
issue. In papers filed March 29 in L.A., the Lees claim
''conscious disregard'' of their rights and seek $10 million in
damages. Penthouse has no comment.
WEDDINGS
She made his day. Clint Eastwood, 65, wed his companion
of one year, California TV anchor Dina Ruiz, 30, March 31, in
Las Vegas. It's the second marriage for the grizzled star (who
had a daughter with former girlfriend Frances Fisher in 1993)
and the first for Ruiz.
EXPECTING/ADOPTING
[The Artist Formerly Known as Prince], 37, and belly dancer Mayte, 22, expect
their first child in November, lending new meaning to the Prince
song ''Do Me Baby.'' The couple wed on Valentine's Day.... Yours,
mine, ours, theirs. DreamWorks mogul Steven Spielberg, 49, and
wife, actress Kate Capshaw, 42, adopted a baby girl, Mikaela
George, born Feb. 28. The rest of their brood includes one child
each from previous marriages, two kids they had together, and an
adopted son.
