Dennis Hopper, playing the oldest-looking 47-year-old schoolteacher on God's Midwestern earth, courts a drab fellow teacher (Amy Irving) with maddening passivity, but is awakened to passion by the happy breasts of a 17-year-old student (Amy Locane). Director Bruno Barreto (Irving's husband) works at making poetry out of Jim Harrison's man-wrestling-with-demons story, but mostly, it's a lot of high-toned hooey. C
