Given his burgeoning movie career, does he even want to be a TV star? ‘‘It's not a choice anymore,’‘ he says softly. ‘‘It's a means to an end, basically. It's opened up so many doors. I couldn't have gotten The Pallbearer unless the show had been on. Hopefully, The Pallbearer will do all right, and a Woody Allen or a Scorsese or a Spielberg will take a risk with me as a film actor, and we'll work from there.’‘

For one brief moment, David Schwimmer doesn't seem so worried.
