STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE -- HARBINGER (Viacom New Media, CD-ROM for PC, $49.95) Darker and pricklier than its more embraceable Star Trek relatives, Deep Space Nine has never been easy to like. That reputation isn't liable to change with spin-offs like this. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Harbinger looks and sounds good the detailed graphics are sharply rendered, and the actual cast of DS9 recorded the animated characters' voices but the game itself is lifeless. As a Tirrion envoy, you must solve a murder on the station and battle an alien threat. The role-playing mystery is uninspired, the puzzles stale, and the shoot-'em-up arcade segments just plain silly. D+
