Politics, Religion and Her (1996)

EW's GRADE
C+

Details Lead Performance: Sammy Kershaw; Genre: Country

On his sixth try, Sammy Kershaw finally makes an album on which he digs into his emotions instead of just winking at them. He finds the heart of such songs as the good-time corker ''Little Bitty Crack in Her Heart'' and the tight-lipped weeper of a title tune, Politics, Religion and Her. But then he throws it all away with tired covers of Chuck Berry's ''Memphis, Tennessee'' and Sammy Johns' dreaded ''Chevy Van.'' C+
