Jimmy Smith and Eddie Harris is one of those inspired live recordings well worth unleashing on the world — organist Smith teaming up, for the first and only time, with saxophonist Harris for a gig at San Francisco's now-defunct Keystone Korner in 1981. Smith smolders and the underrated Harris is, as always, more inventive than first impression might suggest, leaping across registers and redefining soulfulness in his own image. B
