In this satirical romp through post-Soviet Russia, Jack Womack describes a world of petty bureaucrats, shameless opportunists, and full-blown mafiosi. The initially sluggish plot takes off when Max Borodin — a businessman who fabricates documents for all kinds of official nonsense — enters into a shady business deal that endangers his life, his wife, his mistress, and his business. Let's Put the Future Behind Us is a hypodermic depiction of capitalism run amok at the hands of slaphappy ex-Communists. B+
