VERNON REID Mistaken Identity (Sony 550) Vernon Reid, the former Living Colour axman, plays the way Dennis Rodman grabs rebounds — with a single-minded intensity and verve that can leave you both awestruck and glassy-eyed. His insanely intricate fretwork on Mistaken Identityis stunning, and occasional jazz, reggae, and rap inflections enliven his domineering solos. But an hour of hardcore, look-at-me noodling can get boring. B
