Duncan Sheik (1996)

EW's GRADE
C+

Details Lead Performance: Duncan Sheik

Armed with acoustic guitars, keyboards, and fussily arranged strings, Duncan Sheik aims for the lush, passionate melancholy of Nick Drake or Bryan Ferry. All that's missing is any real emotional commitment. Tasteful restraint smothers what little feeling the cliched lyrics (''We become shadows of ourselves'') contain. C+
