This story of a Klansman on death row and his young lawyer grandson is basically a Southern family chronicle (complete with genteel alcoholic aunt). The controlled, even storytelling in The Chamber is a stark contrast to the convoluted plot of The Runaway Jury, but what it doesn't offer is a single moment of suspense. B-
