Barbara Taylor Bradford's new novel, about a woman plagued by repressed-memory syndrome, has, predictably, followed its 11 predecessors onto the best-seller lists. At 44, Meredith Stratton owns quaint, profitable inns in France, England, and Connecticut and is in love with a handsome French architect. But a lifelong sadness over her mother's early disappearance has recently developed into a debilitating ''psychogenic fatigue,'' and Meredith must ferret out the truth about her past, lest it thwart her new romance. Mercifully, Her Own Rules gives short shrift to the memory-retrieval drama, concentrating instead on Meredith's emotional search for family and identity and a weepy, purging, entirely satisfying denouement.
