Because Gene Kelly was a more accomplished dancer than vocalist, these MGM soundtrack recordings capture only a fraction of his offhand screen magic. Hearing him sing ''I Like Myself'' in his amiable light baritone, followed by an instrumental passage (to which he danced gloriously), hardly has the impact of seeing the number. S'Wonderful's most successful recordings are Kelly's duets with the cheerily precise Fred Astaire and the ever-electric Judy Garland. B
