This double-disc anthology documents the Pointers' early peak, from the Bayou funk of ''Yes We Can Can'' to the slow boil of Bruce Springsteen's ''Fire.'' Sure, comic undercurrents and slightly off-key harmonies make some tunes on The Very Best of the Pointer Sisters: Fire sound like karaoke kitsch. But while the bulk of today's female groups approach music as lung-busting drudgery, the Pointers always seem to be having a ball. B
