Often referred to as Nashville's Janis Joplin, Jonell Mosser sounds more like an early Tracy Nelson bluesy, strong, and full of emotion. Surprisingly, she's chosen all Townes Van Zandt songs for her long-awaited debut Around Townes, beefing up his country-folk arrangements with blues mandolin and jazzy bass. Stirring, but not always successful (despite guests Delbert McClinton and John Cowan). B
