It's a Man's World

Details Lead Performance: Cher

Is the world ready for a subtle Cher record? After 30 years of booming overstatement, Cher turns sultry in this collection of male-identified ballads — from Don Henley's ''Not Enough Love in the World'' to Eric Katz's weepy ''I'm Blowin' Away.'' Shorn of her braying vibrato, the songs on It's a Man's World lack some of Cher's old camp — though luckily not all of it. Her version of ''Walkin' in Memphis'' still must be heard to be believed. C
