Nut Her Type: Say goodbye to all those sweet, slightly dippy Meg Ryan roles. Emboldened by her portrait of a Desert Storm medevac pilot in Courage Under Fire, Ryan's preparing to play a woman scorned in Warner Bros.' Addicted to Love, directed by Griffin Dunne. ''People think this is another When Harry Met Sally, but they'll be very surprised,'' says Ryan. ''It's an antiromantic comedy. The deal is I'm really mad, and I have this elaborate sick plan to get [revenge on] the guy who dumped me.'' Costar Matthew Broderick, a fellow dumpee, ''is a poor, unsuspecting Jimmy Stewart type'' who hooks up with Ryan's character. The actress reports that she's thrilled to play against type. ''I'm having the best time getting out tons of little frustrations,'' she says. ''It's so fun to play this witch.''
Going for the Gold: After a long day of pole vaulting, synchronized swimming, and shot put, what Olympians really want is a little...Hootie!? To entertain the more than 15,000 athletes and officials staying at Atlanta's Olympic Village during Olympiad XXVI, organizers have planned a slew of diversions, including a Hootie & the Blowfish concert July 20 and an appearance by LL Cool J Aug. 1. Movie fans will be treated to screenings of everything from Batman to Dirty Harry(action flicks, you see, need no translation) in the Olympic Village's four theaters. And former world-class athlete-turned-movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger will host an Aug. 2 screening of Eraser with costars Vanessa Williams and James Caan. Why Ah-nuld? ''He's the kind of star whose appeal knows no geographic boundaries,'' explains Willie Banks, the village's director of athlete services. Which raises the question, how do you say ''pump you up'' in Chinese?
