Apparently, Spike Lee has adopted an old surrealist parlor trick as a new method of directing: Tear up six scripts, toss in air, and shoot the bits where they fall. At any given moment during Girl 6, a comedy set in the world of phone sex, it's hard to know which story is up — the one decrying sexual exploitation, the one indulging in it, the wacky parody of black entertainment, or the serious drama of a woman learning to respect herself. Any cohesion is the result of an eminently likable actress (Theresa Randle) in the title role; it's certainly not due to the cast of caricatures, including a movie director (Quentin Tarantino) and a madam (Madonna). You might consider putting this call on hold. C
