Credits
The hand of scriptwriter Quentin Tarantino guides this thriller even when he's not appearing on screen as Richard, pervert brother of escaped con Seth Gecko (George Clooney). Robert Rodriguez's movie starts out as an unnervingly violent chase flick, reminiscent of Reservoir Dogsin its witty banter and bloody shoot-outs, then takes the siblings to a gruesome strip club in Mexico. There, From Dusk Till Dawndegenerates into a familiar video gorefest, as the dancers all turn into you guessed it drooling vampires. That bizarre juxtaposition may present itself as gonzo pastiche in the same way that Tarantino's own films stitch together B-movie cliches. But the result leaves viewers as well as the characters stranded, caught somewhere between the goofy and the gritty. C+
