Blue Cave (1996)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Hoodoo Gurus

Sarcastic wit and chunky rhythm let these Australian garage-rock journeymen get away with all sorts of tricks: psychedelic arrangements, spaghetti-western guitars, sprinted tempos, party voices, even an outlandish Little Miss Muffet rewrite that crosses the Who's ''Boris the Spider'' with Focus' opera-metal oldie ''Hocus Pocus.'' The janglier ballads are prissy; otherwise, Blue Cave is a model grunge bands could learn from. B+
