Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is uncomfortable with weapons and squeamish about body parts, but determined to nail her latest, regrettably uncompelling assignment: tracking down 24 empty missing caskets and bail jumper Kenny Mancuso. Janet Evanovich's Two For the Dough is mechanical and insular, but the saucy Plum is a heroine worth her Mace. C+
