Feeling Minnesota (1996)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Various Artists

Given the inclusion of a wide range of musicians and eras (Replacements, Nancy Sinatra, Helmet, the Temptations), it's impressive how comfortably this hangs together. Dylan's gospel-tinged ''Ring of Fire,'' Joe Henry's gentle ''Safe With Me,'' and Son Volt's resigned ''Looking at the World Through a Windshield'' lend the album a certain rusticity. The only disappointments on Feeling Minnesota are Wilco's pallid ''Blasting Fonda'' and Spearhead's surprisingly stiff cover of Sly and the Family Stone's ''Family Affair.'' B+
