Whistle-stop touring may be hot stuff in this year's presidential campaign -- but it seems that Clinton supporter Anne Rice might be a bit nostalgic for the Democrats' successful bus tour of 1992. The promotional effort for her latest, Servant of the Bones, has the author riding through 40-plus states in a vehicle that a tongue-tied Knopf spokesperson could only describe as ''souped up.'' After two printings, 767,000 copies of Servant are in circulation. Rice, meanwhile, is taking a serious bite out of bestsellerdom: Her Memnoch the Devil is No. 8 on the trade paperback list.
