C+
Linda Perry disbanded 4 Non Blondes at the height of their popularity, presumably so she could order up the sparer backing that here puts the focus squarely on her affected vocals and crushingly banal songwriting. Producer Bill Bottrell helps some with his coolish atmospherics. But there's no redemption for In Flight's hippie dirges that take the POV of a bird sitting in a tree or endlessly repeat navel-gazing rhetorical questions like ''Will success fail me?'' (yep), ''Am I getting too deep?'' (nope), and ''I believe in Jesus/Does Jesus believe in me?'' D
