Produced by Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard and championed by Afghan Whigs' Greg Dulli, Seattle's latest hope, Satchel, gain a certain stateliness from their moody keyboard swirls and swooping guitar climaxes. And their lyrics on The Family are easier to make sense of than your usual obscure grunge poetry. Unfortunately, the world-weary tempos and vocals — a cross between Blind Melon and '80s Bob Seger — make the project drag. B-
