If Pearl Jam and Soundgarden aspire to be their generation's Led Zeppelin, Tonic wants to be Bad Company. Like Bad Company, Tonic are shamelessly derivative but have a finely tuned sense of drama. ''Open Up Your Eyes'' is a magisterial mid-tempo ballad braced by a swirling descending chorus and pounding drums that would have sounded at home on AM radio, circa 1973. C+
