In the ever-more-frequent tradition of people with less-than- stellar track records dispensing advice on life and love, Barrymore doesn't disappoint. Many of the questions are fairly cosmic: For instance, ''Can a man and woman live together in peace?'' Barrymore's response: ''We are on a never-ending quest for peace, but along that path we are here to learn the lesson to make the peace worthwhile, and something we are able to learn is only through the difficulty through the fires we have to walk, that we learn our lessons.'' Paging Deepak Chopra!
Far more entertaining are the few tough questions sprinkled throughout the show, such as this query from RUKidnMe, who asks, ''Jaid, how do you react to the theory that you are [riding] on your daughter Drew's coattails?'' Barrymore claims online to be "incredibly proud" of her daughter and, in a telephone interview, says that Drew is ''really happy I have my own thing going.'' To her credit, Barrymore who just a few years ago was "in Jurassic Park" when it came to computers is as self- effacing as Conway. But she believes she's made ''enough mistakes'' off-line, so to speak, ''that other people can learn from them.'' Online she likes to talk about her 24-year-old musician boyfriend, Paul Cote, and the ''great sex'' she has with him when she can squeeze in the time between Gold's Gym workouts. Workouts are essential, we learn, so ''my butt does not sink to the back of my knees.''
Wrong. Workouts are essential so that in the very possible event Jaid Barrymore Uncensored tanks, she still has a shot at that lingerie-spokesmodel gig. Live Net could be the future of late-night talk shows; Jaid Barrymore Uncensored is a dated reminder of too much mediocre daytime TV.
