Lawsuits Tom Cruise isn't the only one who's got a bone to pick
with the German magazine industry. Arnold Schwarzenegger, 49,
filed a $20 million suit Sept. 5 against the Stuttgart-based
Sport Auto magazine and the Gemballa North America car company
of Malibu, Calif., for using his mug without permission. He
claims the thumbs-up pic that appeared on the November 1995
cover of the mag touting a Gambella-customized Porsche is a
fraud....
Clint Eastwood, 66, will pay former lover Sondra
Locke, 49, an undisclosed amount to settle a civil suit. The
actress accused the star of undermining her fledgling directing
career and asked for $2.5 million in damages. An L.A. jury
reportedly was mulling how much to award Locke when the
agreement was announced Sept. 24. ''He's very happy with the
amount of the settlement and glad that it ended amicably,'' says
a spokesman for Eastwood. Locke's agent did not return calls.
Weddings Carolyn Bessette, 30, a former Calvin Klein publicist,
became the world's most envied woman by marrying the world's
most eligible bachelor, John F. Kennedy Jr., 35, in a private
ceremony, Sept. 21, on Cumberland Island, off the coast of
Georgia....
In an equally unpublicized event, Jim Carrey, 34,
shared vows with on-again, off-again girlfriend Lauren Holly,
32, Sept. 23, ''in Los Angeles in a very private, small
ceremony,'' according to a spokeswoman for the actor. It's the
second marriage for both.
Honors It was Mission: Appreciation at the American Cinematheque Awards, Sept. 21, as everyone from Kurt Russell to Sherry Lansing paid homage to Tom Cruise for his contribution to the movie industry. Cruise-aholic Rosie O'Donnell was the mistress of ceremonies and showed off a fake Tom tattooed on her chest.
Births A daughter, Stella del Carmen Banderas Griffith, to Melanie Griffith, 39, and Antonio Banderas, 36, Sept. 24, in Marbella, Spain.
Deaths Sarong siren Dorothy Lamour, 81, in North Hollywood, Calif., Sept. 22, of cardiac arrest. As the eye candy in seven Bob Hope and Bing Crosby Road movies (from 1940's Road to Singapore to 1962's Road to Hong Kong), the exotic brunet and former Miss New Orleans gained a piece of movie immortality.
