Filmed on a shoestring on the streets of Brooklyn, Sam Henry Kass' self-conscious comedy The Search for One-Eye Jimmy follows a bunch of losers as they schlepp around looking for the missing title character whom nobody actually misses. Along the way, we must endure too much improvised sidewalk dialogue, which borrows the style (but not the substance) of movies from Mean Streets to Smoke. We also watch too many name actors making hammy cameo appearances, among them Anne Meara as One-Eye Jimmy's hysterical mom and John Turturro as a disco- dancing loony. Believe it or not, this waste of everyone's time did get a theatrical release. Chances are it wasn't at a theater near you. D+
