Last February 8, 150 photojournalists combed the globe attempting to chronicle 24 hours in the intangible world that is cyberspace. But the overhyped event, coordinated by Rick Smolan, who created the ''Day in the Life'' photo-essay series, failed to generate much sizzle. Now, however, some 200 photos from the project have been collected in a stunning, kaleidoscopic book documenting the fiber-optic-linked day in 24 Hours in Cyberspace. Images range from nerdy (netheads at ''geekhauses'' in Santa Cruz, California) to sublime (Buddhist monks hacking websites in Kyoto, Japan). An included companion CD-ROM contains the entire website dedicated to 24 Hours, with twice the photos of the book. Unlike the bits and bytes of the site, you can bring the book to the beach and spend a day unplugged in Cyberspace.
