Defending a woman (Missy Crider) accused of killing the governor of California may prove to be the least of Anthony LaPaglia's trials as the new star of ABC's Murder One. The season premiere of Steven Bochco's legal drama finished 57th, losing to NBC's Seinfeld (1st) and Suddenly Susan (4th), CBS' Diagnosis Murder (39th), and Fox's baseball play-off game (51st). Another struggling ABC drama, Dangerous Minds, slid from 43rd to 66th in its second week. Meanwhile, the season's biggest surprise hit is CBS' high-concept drama Early Edition, which has made it into the top 20 for two weeks in a row. Things are also looking up for Ross Perot: His first Fox infomercial finished dead last for the week it aired, but his second skyrocketed to 93rd, tying Joey Lawrence's WB sitcom, Brotherly Love.
