The New York Yankees may have won the World Series, but they couldn't stop Brad Pitt. While Game 6 cut into weekend box office, Pitt accomplished what the Atlanta Braves couldn't, repeating at No. 1 as Sleepers dropped just 22 percent from its opening weekend. The Ghost and the Darkness and The First Wives Club, both recent chart-toppers, slipped in the box office trough as High School High, Thinner, and The Associate opened modestly. And Michael Collins went into wide release, but at No. 8 it was no home run. Collins will be hard-pressed to hold theaters until its hoped-for inclusion on year-end critics' lists.
